William "Bill" Norris, Jr.

Mr. William Carlton "Bill" Norris, Jr. of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky having attained the age of 79 years, 10 months and 3 days. He was born in Burkesville, Kentucky on Thursday, July 6, 1944 the son of William C. Norris, Sr. and Verla (Davidson) Norris.

He was a member of Liberty Church and Church Superintendent for 35+ years, 1966 Graduate of Western KY University with a degree in Agriculture, Charter Member of Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Retired U.S. Department of Agriculture/USDA Rural Development, President and Board Chairman of Duo Broadband, Cumberland County E-911 Board Member and Treasurer, Member of American Hereford Association, KY Hereford Association, and KY Cattleman's Association, the breeder of registered Hereford cattle for more than 60 years, and was recognized in 2017 as a "Golden Hereford Breeder" by the American Hereford Association.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth Gayle (Bruton) Norris whom he wed on Saturday, January 29, 1966, and son-in-law, Pat Proffitt.

He is survived by his children, Amanda "Mandy" Bell of Monticello, Kentucky, Amy Proffitt of Burkesville, Kentucky, Jenny (& Clint) Boyett of Cookeville, Tennessee, sisters, Jean Harvey of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Joyce McDaniel of Louisville, Kentucky, grandchildren, Kari Huff, Evan Proffitt, Tori Perkins, Tanner Bell, Taylor Dick, Ryleigh Boyett, Jackson Boyett, great-grandchildren, Jettson Perkins, Indy Perkins, Briggs Dick, nephews, Richard Harvey, Darryl McDaniel, and niece Sandra Owens.

The funeral service was conducted on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky, with Bro. Nickie Richards officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky. Casket Bearers were Jason Perkins, Will Huff, Richard Harvey, Jackson Boyett, Braxton Dick, Lane Dubre, and Clay Proffitt. Honorary Casket Bearers were Greg Waid, Valion “Slick” Thurman, Harley Morgan, Keith Riddle, Doug Buttler, Lanny Judd, Gary Murphy, and Dr. Brian Dyer. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Liberty Cemetery c/o Citizens Bank of Cumberland County, 209 Keen St., Burkesville, Kentucky 42717 in Mr. Norris's memory.
