Shirley Wray Barnett

Mrs. Shirley Kay (Wray) Barnett of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky having attained the age of 67 years, 7 months & 15 days. She was born in Clinton County, Kentucky on Monday, July 29, 1957 the daughter of Samuel Pennycuff & Glenza Arco (Wray) Wray. A woman of deep faith, she was baptized into the Mt. Pisgah United Baptist Church, locally known as “Bow School House” in June of 1968 and remained a faithful member until her passing. Shirley found joy in gardening, cooking, canning, playing the piano, singing, and sharing her love for Jesus. Above all, she cherished attending church and worshiping with her community who will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lonas Crandle Wray, sister, Regina Jane Hinds, niece, Teresa Wray, sisters-in-law, Nelda Wray, Regina Wray, father-in-law, James Barnett, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Barnett , and Alan Barnett.

She is survived by her husband, Barry Wade Barnett, whom she wed on Saturday, May 30, 1992, children, Kalyn Elizabeth (& Matthew) Strunk, Rachel Marie (& Travis) Gilbert, all of Burkesville, Kentucky, mother-in-law, Jessie Ruth Barnett, brother-in-law, Mark Barnett (& Lois Nevels), sisters-in-law, Karen Dubois and Lois Bishop, grandchildren, Barrett Wade Gilbert, soon-to-be granddaughter, Mattilyn Faith Strunk, and special nieces, Rita (& Tony) Jeffries, Patty (& Tim) Thompson, Sharon (& Bruce) Lindsey, Loretta (& Ronnie) Savage, and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many church friends.

The funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bow School House Church with Bro. Todd Huckleby, Bro. Greg Jenkins, and Bro. Joey Bunch officiating, and special music by Ronnie Pyles & Blessed Hope. Burial followed in the Bow School House Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky. Casket Bearers were Travis Gilbert, Matthew Strunk, Ronnie Savage, Tim Thompson, Darrell Moons, David Moons, Brandon Thompson, and Alex Savage. Honorary Casket Bearers were Andrew Cooksey, Paul Savage, Paul Savage, Bruce Lindsey, Tony Jefferies, Frankie Froedge, Dakota Jefferies, Ashton Young, Bentley Johnson, Cainen Moons, Greg Moons, Michael Moons, Kevin Moons, Adam Dubois, Dawson Jones, Matthew Jones, Anthony Jones, Dakota Barnett, Andrew Pearson, Nolan Johnson.
