Robert Lee Coffey of Louisville, Kentucky passed away Monday, September 14, 2020, at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. He was 87 years old. Robert was born in the Goodluck Community of Metcalfe County, Kentucky on Sunday, February 12, 1933, the son of William Henry and China Mae Smith Coffey.
Robert served in the Army during the Korean War following his graduation from Metcalfe County High School. In 1959, he graduated from Bowling Green Business University, and retired from a 48 year career at Jim Cooke Buick in Louisville. He was a member of Highview Baptist Church in Louisville and a devout Christian.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his sister-in-law Peggy Coffey; and brothers-in-law Bennie Dobbs, Robert Keeton, and Charles Parks.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Barbara Keeton Coffey, whom he wed on September 3, 1960; his daughter, Valerie Coffey Harrington; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jennifer Coffey; three grandchildren, Austin Harrington, Alexandra “Ally” Harrington, and Nora Coffey; brother, Howard Coffey; sister, Dorothy Parks; sisters-in-law, Patricia Dobbs and Margenia Keeton; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services were conducted on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. (C.S.T.) at the Grider Memorial Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky with eulogy by David Wells. Casket Bearers were, Austin Harrington, David Wells, Robert Coffey, Valerie Harrington, Alexandra Harrington, John McCloughan. Honorary pallbearer was Nora Coffey. Burial was in the Grider Memorial Cemetery.
