Mr. John Richard Smith of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Tri-Star Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, having attained the age of 75 years, 11 months, and 17 days. He was born on Friday, September 24, 1948 in New Castle, Indiana, the son of John Clifton “Bud” & Georgia (Vincent) Smith. He was of the Christian faith, proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, and retired from the US National Guard. He was a member of the Peolia Church in Albany Kentucky, and worked as truck driver for many years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John L. & Alma (Cross) Smith, maternal grandparents, Roy & Laura Vincent, and special aunt & uncle, Everett & Fonzie Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Moore) Smith, whom he wed on Friday, December 25, 1998, daughter, Misty Dawn (& Thomas) Thompson of Connersville, Indiana, grandchildren, Carsen Thompson, Patrick Thompson, and Nicholas Thompson, all of Connersville, Indiana, brother, Wilburn Hall Vincent of Las Vegas, Nevada, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Barry(& Diane) Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jerry (& Brenda) Moore of Dover, Tennessee, Patty (& Donnie) Riddle of Burkesville, Kentucky, Sherry (Darrel) Rose of Burkesville, Kentucky, Shelia (& Barry Travis) Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana, and special cousin/brother, David Smith of Burkesville, Kentucky, Jeff Vincent of Albany, Kentucky, and special cousins/sister, Kathy Mosby of Marrowbone Kentucky.
A memorial service was held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Memory Chapel of the Norris-New Funeral Home, in Burkesville Kentucky, with Bro David Stearns, Bert Garmon, Jeff Vincent and Neal Pointdexter officiating. Military Honors were provided by the Monticello DAV #105. Burial was in the Smith Family Cemetery in Cumberland County Kentucky. The Urn Bearer was Waylon Riddle. Honorary Urn Bearers were Jeff Vincent, Jimmy King, Allen Duvall, Bert Garmon, Mike Mosby, Nathan Riddle, Chad Scott, Stacy Cash, David Smith, and Darrel Rose. In lieu of flowers contributions appreciated to the Cave Springs Cemetery in Clinton County.
