Lucille Sell Garner

     Mrs. Lucille (Sell) Garner, of Green Grove Road in Burkesville passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the Cumberland County Hospital having attained the age of 84 years, 1 month & 28 days. She was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky, Thursday, May 13, 1937 the daughter of Ronald & Mabel (Crawley) Sell. She was of the Baptist faith.

She graduated Burkesville High School in the class of 1955, received her Bachelors, Masters & Rank I all from Western Kentucky University. She began her teaching career in a one room school (Vincent) and finished her teaching career at Cumberland County High as the school librarian with a total of 49 ½ years of service in the field of education. She was a member of The Retired Teachers Association.

 In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Royster Lee Garner whom she wed on June 21, 1954, her son-in-law Doug Davis, her brother Randal Sell & her sister Wanda Elavee Wright.

She is survived by her children: Connie (Bill) Garmon of Marrowbone, Kentucky; Alvin (Kathy) Garner of Burkesville, Kentucky;  Ricky (Debbie) Garner of Burkesville, Kentucky & Kathy Davis of Somerset, Kentucky.

Grandchildren:  Ashley (Jason) Herrington of Leitchfield; Matt (Jonna) Garmon of Monticello; Karissa (Andrew) Cooper of Somerset; Nathan (Lindsey) Garner of Burkesville; Brittany (Todd) Childress of Bowling Green; Kami (Daniel) Hicks of Somerset; and Sarah (Bradley) Kessinger of Burkesville. Step-Grandchildren: Carla Staley and Chris (Frankie) Akins.

Great-Grandchildren:  Kamryn Cooper, Mallie Herrington, Baylee Garner, Karlee Herrington, Charley Garner, Ann Douglas Hicks, Maebry Herrington, Rylan Kessinger,  Anna Grace Herrington, Colson Kessinger, Harrison Hicks and Riggs Garner. Step-Great Grandchild, Hunter Herrington.          

A celebration of Mrs. Lucille Garner’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Modoc Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 until the funeral hour on Wednesday.  In lieu of flowers, donations to The Modoc Cemetery or the Cumberland County High School Library would be appreciated.  Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky is honored to be in charge of the arrangements.
