Mrs. Ethel Mae (Powers) Scott of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at UofL Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 9 days. She was born on Wednesday, October 7, 1942, in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of Lawrence “Mink” and Stella (Graham) Powers. She was of the Christian faith and a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil Paul Scott, Sr., children, Mary E. Scott, Rebecca M. Scott, Jimmy Scott, Shorty Scott, brothers, Lyndel Powers, Lynn Rarey, Ray Ogle, sister, Adell Skaggs, grandson-in-law, Nelson Hammack.
She is survived by her children, Regina Amonett of Milltown, Indiana, John Scott of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Lewis “Red” Scott (& Tyra Cash) of Burkesville, Kentucky; brother, Thomas Powers of North Vernon, Indiana; grandchildren, Leslie Hammack, Lindsay (& A. J.) Shankaren, Abe Vaughn, Keith Scott, Rebecca Scott, Nacina Scott, Shawn Scott, J. D. Smith, Mary Booher, Ashley Dorsey, Jamie Pierce, James Scott, Jr., Chris Scott, Kirsten Yates; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Higdon, Christian Hammack, Alex Hammack, Emerald Hammack, Amelia Shankaren, Silas Scott, Evan Baxter, Journee Copley, Ariahanna Scott, Ella Nina Booher, Ares Dorsey, Athena Dorsey, Jamie Lynn Pierce, Amber Pierce, Jalaina Pierce, Jaxson Yates, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 2:00 P.M in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Cash officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 19, 2026, beginning at 3:00 P.M until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the Dutch Creek Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky.
