David "Sleepy" Groce

Mr. David “Sleepy” Groce of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the Cumberland County Hospital, in Burkesville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 27 days. He was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky, on Thursday, November 19, 1942, the son of Birdie and Cleo (Jones) Groce. He was a Christian and he attended Branham Grove Baptist Church.  He was a carpenter and a man of many talents.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Smith, Jean Scott, Marie Powell and Ruth Scarlett.

He is survived by his wife, Janice L. (Flowers) Groce, whom he wed on Saturday, August 3, 1963, of Burkesville, Kentucky, children, Ricky Groce of Burkesville, Kentucky, Barbara (& Andy) Davidson of Burkesville, Kentucky, siblings, Joe Groce of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lonnie (& Debbie) Groce of Burkesville, Kentucky, Beatrice (& Bobby) Davidson of Burkesville, Kentucky, grandchildren, Jonathan (& Kristin) Davidson, Rachel (& Bethany) Davidson, great-grandchildren, Ryelie Davidson and Kayden Melton, Papa to Ava Grace and Anna along with a host of special nieces and nephews, and many many dear friends.

The funeral service for Mr. David “Sleepy” Groce was conducted on Friday, February 18, 2022 at The Branham Grove Baptist Church in Cumberland County, Kentucky with Bro. Rick Catron officiating, Eulogy given by, David Lewis, and congregational song leadership by Laura Scott. Casket bearers were Freddie Akin, Larry Flowers, Parker Scott, James Thompson, Chris Scott, and Jonathan Davidson. Honorary casket bearers were Lawrence Vincent, David Lewis, and Ronnie Flowers. Burial was in the Branham Grove Cemetery.
