David R. Sharp

Mr. David R. Sharp of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Friday, July 3, 2020 at his residence. He was born in The Amandaville Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky on September 29, 1930 the son of Paul and Maude (Powell) Sharp. He was a member of the Burkesville Baptist Church, served in the United States Air Force, attained his B.S. degree from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee, his Masters in Education and Rank I from Western Kentucky University, was a Cumberland County Educator, his career beginning in 1960 teaching at Marrowbone, then Principal at Cumberland County High School in 1971, in 1981 becoming Superintendent of Cumberland County School System until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and former member of the Jaycees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rankin Sharp, Richard Sharp and Jack Sharp, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Laura White (Buchanan) Money.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Lea (Money) Sharp whom he wed on June 25, 1957, daughter, Karen (and Robert) Adams of Apopka, Florida, brother, Paul (and Hazel) Sharp of Bowling Green, Kentucky, granddaughter, Mary Laura Hood of Bowling Green, Kentucky, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survive.

The funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Turner, Dr. Mark Shelton, and Hon. David L. Williams officiating. Special music was shared by Libby Mullinix and special singing shared by Rachel McDaris. Burial was in the Burkesville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jim Murley, Mike Morgan, T.J. Morgan, Todd Davidson, Jeff Booher, Kevin Hunt, Joe David Brown, and Skip Rush. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Burkesville Baptist Church or The Burkesville Cemetery. Norris-New Funeral Home was honored to be in charge of all the arrangements.
