Christopher Dickens Obituary

Christopher Allen Dickens, age 44 of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, May 18, 2023. Chris was born on December 10, 1978 to Carol Young Dickens and the late Roy “Doc” Dickens. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents Bonnie Dickens and Roy H. Dickens, Sr., Owsley and Lucy Young, uncle Grant Young, aunt and cousin Betty and Katy Brooks.

Chris had a lifelong passion for guitar playing and songwriting, performing duets with his daughter Lucy and encouraging her to write songs of her own. He participated in Somerset Community College Theater & Film productions, and occasionally wrote a column covering regional arts and culture for the Cumberland County Newspaper. He had an array of jobs in his lifetime from river barge deckhand to over the road truck driver to substitute teacher.

He loved stories; telling them, singing them, performing them, referencing them from his encyclopedic knowledge of movies, shows, books, and songs.
