Brother James E. “Jimmy” Powell of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 at The Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, having attained the age of 80 years, 1 month & 21 days. He was born in The Hegira Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky on Thursday, September 3, 1942 the son of Lucian Elgin and Opal Sara Jane (Wray) Powell.. He was of the Methodist faith, a United Methodist Minister from 1972 till 2022, mechanic, and a farmer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Earl Powell, Ronnie Elvin Powell, Larry Eudene Powell, sister-in-law, Denise Dee Powell.
He is survived by his wife, Delcie (Fields) Powell of Burkesville, Kentucky, whom he wed on Saturday, November 11, 1961, children, David (& Connie) Powell of Burkesville, Kentucky, Michael (& Amanda) Powell of Burkesville, Kentucky, Naomi Lynn (& Hauke) May of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Ashley (& James) Glass of Burkesville, Kentucky, brother, John E. Powell of Albany, Kentucky, grandchildren, Jon-Erik Lynn, Ethan Lynn, Erica Lynn, Rebey Powell, Jasmin Moolhuizen, great-grandson, Otis Lynn, Jr., adopted grandchildren, Michael Branham, Makala Branham, along with other family members, and many, many friends.
The Funeral Service was conducted on Thursday, October 27, 2022 in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville with Bro. Dana Coverstone, Bro. Gary Cash officiating. A eulogy was shared by Bro. Bill Davenport. Burial was in the Dutch Creek Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky. Casket Bearers were Mitchell Lynn, Ethan Lynn, Gary White, Bill Wray, Allen Scott and Coleman Hurt. Honorary Casket Bearers were The Honorable Steve Hurt, John Hurt, Michael Brown, Dr. Samuel Rice, Bro. Phillip Leak, Sister Jennifer Campbell, and Keith Abston. Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville was honored to be in charge of the arrangements.
