Barbara Jean Long
1952 – 2023
Barbara Jean Long of Hilham, Tenn., passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 17, 2023, with family by her side. Barbara succumbed to metastatic breast cancer first diagnosed in 2019 that had spread to her bones. She was 71.
Barbara will be remembered for her unconditional love of her family, her ability to make anyone feel welcomed and always had an open door to friends and family. She was a stronger supporter of Cumberland County High School booster club for her girls’ basketball and softball programs. Barbara also loved fiddling with her flowers and enjoyed growing a garden.
She developed life-long friendships at Sutton’s, Oshkosh, and Parker-Hannifin, where she retired from in 2018. Since then, she took advantage of traveling with her daughters, spending quality time with her grand and great-grandchildren and scouring a good thrift store, or two. She attended Ashlock Church of Christ and Spears Chapel United Methodist Church.
Born in Livingston, Tenn., on January 4, 1952, Barbara is the daughter to the late Warren G. Hardin Key and Claudine Key White. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, friend, and grandmother. She cherished her five daughters, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Terry Lantis Long, son, Eddie Allen Long, her brother, Wendel Key, and her sister, Patsy Groce.
She is survived by her sisters Rebecca Watson in Ashlock, Ky., and Carolyn (Mac) Fisher, Cookeville, Tenn., daughters, Teresa (Dana) Elliott of Hilham, Tenn., Debbie (Brian) Davis of Austin, Texas, Michelle Long of Austin, Texas, Beth Maxey (Timothy Pearman) of Hodgenville, Ky., and Monica (Chance) Poole of Bowling Green, Ky., and her grandchildren Grace (Jordan) McCoy, Rachel (Jason) Jones, Craig (Dana) Elliott, Adyson Davis, Paizlee and Paxton Maxey and Calum Poole plus her great-grandchildren Spencer Jones, Jameson Jones and Xaris Elliott.
The funeral service for Mrs. Barbara Jean Long was conducted on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky with Bro. Gary Cash, Dana Elliott and Brian Davis officiating. Casket bearers were Jason Jones, Jordan McCoy, Greg Groce, Gary Groce, Craig Elliott, Jeff Watson. Burial was in the Long Cemetery in the Cherry Tree Ridge Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky.
